Me and My RC

I’ve seen skateboards with logos for all kinds of drinks, including Pepsi, Coke, Mountain Dew and Sobe , but this is the first time I’ve seen an RC Cola skateboard. This particular one made by Super Surfer. They actually molded “Me and My RC” onto the top deck. The Super Surfer imprints on the bottom and trucks are cool as well. I can’t tell if those are plastic trucks or not. The baseplate is metal, but the trucks look like they might be plastic, although I don’t remember plastic trucks showing up until the 90’s. (UPDATE: They are indeed metal trucks.) Maybe this artifact isn’t as old as the seller claims. But then again when was the last time anyone heard the slogan “Me and My RC,” or Royal Crown Cola, come to think of it.

UPDATE: Thanks to Daymond Dodge for pictures of his own RC Cola board and KC for the RC Cola TV commercial.

These first few pictures are from an Ebay auction that ended. You can see the spot on the top where a sticker was applied.

Me and My RC skateboard girl

Me and My RC skateboarding commercial from 1978. Delivering pizzas by skateboard, and she’s really skating. She must be some 70’s pro that I don’t recognize. Last year a 16mm sound print of this 30 second commercial sold for the low price of $12.50 plus shipping. I obviously need to retune my Ebay Alerts. I wonder if it went to Scott Starr.

UPDATE: Thanks to a reader comment from Entrancer, the skateboarder has been identified as Kelly Moran, sister of Happy Days actress Erin Moran.

Update: Many years later, here’s a picture of a poster, slightly different than the in-store advertisement.

I can remember some very cheap completes with fluo plastic trucks in the mid 80’s.

The trucks look just like a pair of Super Surfer trucks I have. I’m looking at one as I type this and the only difference is I have the older pan head kingpin bolts with the coin slot and the hangers have the Super Surfer logo on the flat rectangular space. I can’t see what it says on the trucks in the picture though. These trucks also have a weird bolt hole pattern. The holes near the kingpin are slightly wider apart than the holes near the pivot cup. I have only seen this pattern used on Super Surfer and Huffy decks prior to now.

    1. Super Surfer… Yes. I accidentally removed the picture that had the Super Surfer logo on the bottom. I’ve added it again.

The skateboard chick is Kelly Moran, sister of Happy Days actress Erin Moran. She did a little acting, here’s a news clip: LINK. I love that ad – so carefree with the forever young vibe.

The first poster I ever owned was this one. To this day, nearly 40 years later, I still have it waiting to be framed. Great memories.
