Peek Skateboards Indoor Skatepark in Düsseldorf

Düsseldorf Damage

Skateboarding4Life reports that the long running Peek Skateboards indoor skatepark in Düsseldorf, Germany is on the brink of being shut down because the land lord wants to use the space. It looks like a great space that has seen a lot of use. There is a web site (in German) set up to focus efforts to document and hopefully save the park. Video montage after the jump.

  1. thats a damn shame, I had the pleasure of skating there a few years back and what those guys have done is just amazing.

    the space is enormous, a blimp could parallel park in that space.

      Well … the germans were known for their blimp parking garages.

    Funny story about Ddorf & the skatehall.
    1st of all, the pool is a masterpiece; the best wooden pool I’ve ever skated. It’s practically a wooden version of the SoCal backyard pools I’ve skated for decades. Dietsches is my favorite artist that specializes in wood.

    I go there w/ my son, right before “Best of Both”. We ‘check out’ the park… seeing the bowl in Dland, f’ing stoked, almost unloaded… So we go & talk to ‘someone’ (Donald) about the contest. I’m thinking; I’ve skated pools my entire life, I should be ‘better’ than skaters from dland. Transcript/conversation follows:

    Me: How much to skate in contest?
    Donald: 30something Euros (40-45 dollars)
    Me: That is kind of a lot, how much is the prize money?
    Donald: Why, you think you’re going to win something?

    Two days later at the closing ceremony, right after Donald gives me the 1st place pool check/money….
    (You know, I just could NOT pass up the opportunity!!)

    Me to Donald during ceremony: “What was it that you asked me the other day? Something about thinking I’m going to get prize money?

    Note: I said it very friendly & meant only something like;
    “M_F*cker, you doubted the wrong skater.. I’m from SD & have skated 100s of pools…. and you challenged me in front of my son…. sh*t,,, it’s ON!”
    Thanks Donald for the motivational words!!!

    I believe that Kilian, my son, he was proud of his dad/me …..and that meant more to me than any skate contest win.
