Burnquist’s backyard helicopter antics

Danny way dropped in off that helicopter in a different decade, so it’s not the first time, but Bob has taken the helicopter thing a step further, also using it as his personal tow-in rope. It’s pretty amazing as far as mega ramp action goes, but there are a couple times when I’m actually more impressed by the pilot in the helicopter. The helicopter doesn’t make an appearance until the last quarter of the video, and the rest is filled with typically high skilled skating that you’d expect from Bob Burnquist. It’s part of a series he’s making called “The Dreamland Series.”

  1. Amen to that! I watched this the other day and was like, “Oh yeah, Bob Burnquist, mega ramp, guy really flies, pretty cool, OH MY GOD!! LOOK AT WHAT THAT HELICOPTER PILOT IS DOING!! HE’S CRAZY!!”

  2. Wow…. I definitely haven’t seen that before… Mad props to that pilot.

Nice “Backyard Progression”… but isn’t that on another property of his? I think I was driving somewhere with a friend, who had worked on his literal backyard, when he called him to say “Hey, I pulled the loop!”… which impressed the hell out of me, once I saw King of the Road, and thought about the fact that he had not even seen fit to add “…After eating it HORRIBLY, about a DOZEN times!!” For some reason in this video though, even though I really hate little kids’ “tricks to deck”, I could have done with one less ollie transfer or boardslide transfer… in exchange for a roll in over coping after one of his tricks onto the deck. Just seems like that’d look mighty visceral, with that much vert.

The skating is rad. The helicoptering (?) is awesome. I like to watch Youtube videos of chinook pilots and what they can do on mountain tops when it comes to picking up and dropping of troops. Effing amazing.

  7. I have to say that I totally do not “get” these mega ramp guys. It pushes skating, that’s for certain. But is it more of an “stunt” thing? Less pure skating than death wish daredevils? I just don’t understand the motivation.

I don’t care if it’s “stunt” skating or not, it’s ridiculously badass. I’m not sure if I can agree that doing something that no one else is doing can be described as “less pure skating” because isn’t creativity something that everybody likes to say they love about our sport? Bob has come a long way since his Anti-Hero days, but the fact that he rides for lame companies like Oakley and Hurley now, doesn’t make what I just watched in any way less badass.

the motivation is they are that good…face it an 11 ft halfpipe just isnt a challenge for them, thats why he’s a pro and we arent

      Betsy –

These guys do MEGA RAMP because they can! People said the same thing about kids skating pools, grinding handrails and even WHY in the first place.

This seems like stunt skating now but its just the NEXT level.
