It’s going to be fun to try it later

Björn Holm of Finland made a surfboard out of recycled skateboards. It’s the shell only so it’s probably not as heavy as it looks. I cracked up after watching the video, it’s almost like a SNL Digital Short. Everything is so serious, and there’s all the ice, and all of the sudden it’s over and the poor guy hasn’t even gotten to ride it yet.

Let me know when FInland get some swell. Sick concept though.

  3. surfboard weights 10+ kg (20 lbs)
    nice useless job

    1. Guessing some of those old-school Hawaiian jobbies weighed a touch more than that. Useless?

I feel where your coming from, but it’s still a cool idea.

      1. definitely cool – you are right.
But weren’t they way longer too ?

        1. Maybe a bit longer, yes…

  4. A heavy surfboard is not neccesarily a bad thing. Might just help in that weak wind swell.

  5. hi!

Finland is not the best place for surfing thats for sure!
we get a couple of good waves per year.

I have had one day of surfing since the board was ready. Before that the ocean was frozen. I took it out that day to test it, and it worked really good! It is not heavy at all, stable in the water and easy to paddle. I got couple of waves and it felt like any other board in my opinion.

We are planning to make a short video later when we get waves, so you can see how it works in the water.

    1. good job – I am not a surfer, so please consider my expressed point of view as non-valuable !

  6. Nice work, Bjorn. Look forward to seeing the results.

    1. I’m no kind of surfer, though I have dabbled. Mostly just stoked to see people building stuff, and following their ideas.

The only thing cooler than a massive flaming failure is a massive flaming success. And the line that seperates them is often thinner than the proverbial red-hair.
