Ft. Duchesne, Utah

Spohn Ranch is giving a facelift to a lowlyconcrete slab in Ft. Duchesne, Utah to make a plaza style skatepark for the Ute Indian Tribe. The tribe has 617 people, each human being gets 10.53 square feet of skate able terrain at the end of the deal. You do the math, or look at the pictures on Flickr.

I hope they are not filling in the rest with blacktop!
Something is better that nothing, though.

  2. It needs more banks.

  3. Stoked on the remodel concept!

I’d like to see more of this type of thinking. Imagine The Poop-Jewel of Portland’s South Metro Area–by that I mean Tualatin–with some curb’s atop it’s little banks, an actual spine around it’s so-called bowl, a bowl that you can actually skate, and a few extensions and properly placed corners?

Despite the disdain most cool-guys give that park, the locals are actually nice kids, they rip, and they’re proud of their park. It’s usually quite busy, and if that’s any indiactor, it’s worthy of further attention.

And I’ll bet there’s a lot of other Purkiss-Parks that would benefit from a facelift. Cold-joints aren’t that hard to engineer. There’s money to be had for the right skatepark builder, and we’d all reap the rewards.
