I think the therm ‘largely homophobic’ is a bit strong and negative.
You make us all sound like a bunch of soccer hooligans.Like skaters are actively aggressive against homosexuals.I don’t know the ‘scene’ in the US but if it’s really that bad,I’m ashamed.
    I would say ‘homo-absent’ (not talkin’ ’bout H.O.M.O.S. here…).

    Anyway,nice bag.This guy may get a lot of shit,he’s a leader,not follower.
I wonder if this bag/skateboard combo is allowed on an airplane. If not,it could be handy on the train or bus.Or female skaters might pick up on it.Who knows.
Parts of the video shot in Belgium.Sick trick at 2:30!

  2. hm, that is a pretty girly bag.
they really did go for the look of a purse over, say, a messenger bag.

and yeah, the skateboard scene is really odd when it comes to the gays. i never hear any homophobic comments out of the skateboarders i know, but at the same time i do not know any openly gay ones either, and this is in minneapolis, the most gay friendly city around (according to some magazine recently). so i would say homo-absent is certainly a good description.

It probably will sell, no reason for the young skate rats not to want to carry thier sister’s bag, since they are already wearing her pants.

I would get jumped if I brought a bag like this to:
    a.) the squash club
b.) the beach with my kids
    c.) Burnside

Keep skateboarding gay, or the jocks win!

    1. WINNER: Egbert!

  6. In french a man’s purse is a “baisenville” – an old fashioned word litterally translated as “goes out to town for a fuck” – fancy such a fag, sorry, bag ?

dude rips and can play ping pong…murse it up.

  8. Skateboarding tends to be VERY homophobic, it’s a durn shame too. Don’t let the Jocks win egbert!!

Dylan rider is fucking sick at riding, and it’s a breath of fresh air to see some new style(on and off the board). And ever since his shoe/video part release with Gravis, anytime I go to a park there is at least one kid with some Dylan slips and rolled up pant legs.

  9. oh yeah? on March 5, 2011 - Reply

Hah! Skateboarding may be somewhat homophobic, but it’s way more heterophobic, at least at the skateparks. Cuz of course they tend to feature a somewhat high percentage of easily threatened escapists. I mean, I’ve seen a young shredder walking hand in hand with an older, cross-eyed boy (granted, may have been his brother), and I’ve seen a different young shredder shamelessly hold his older sister’s hand to help her descend a bank on their boards… but I’m not sure I’ve EVER seen romantic heterosexuals holding hands in a skatepark… and I’ve heard way more bitching at/about girls than gays. (And bitching about girls is almost as bad as felching about gays… or wait, is it kvetching?)

    European carryall = backpack

With the great public transportation systems (i.e. trains, trolleys, buses) that are an integral part of Europe, instead of throwing all their junk into a car/SUV/POV, Euros generally use backpacks and take the train.

In contrast; USA carryall = motor vehicle

      Stop stereotyping us,buddy…

    2. I think a more accurate comparison would be public transportation vs car, not a backpack vs a car. People wear backpacks in USA all over the place, especially skateboarders. Over here a European Carryall is a euphemism for a man’s purse, as made famous (here) on a sitcom called Sienfeld.
