IXWebhosting sucks

It’s official!

My web host (IXWebhosting) sucks the big one. I’ve had repeated problems and headaches using them over the past couple of years. Yesterday we were down for about 16 hours before we got back online, and I had to spend almost four hours on the phone getting it fixed. Now that we are back online everything is glacially slow. IXWebhosting is preparing for a move at the end of the month and they are experiencing some major technical difficulties that they won’t come clean about.

Expect the site to be spotty and unresponsive until I get switched over to a new host, hopefully by the end of the week. I apologize for the suckitude.

  1. Hey man I can nab you a pretty good deal (like 50-80 bucks off your first year) from dreamhost.

    Let me know.

  2. we’re used to your suckitude. just kidding. just kidding about being just kidding. just kidding about saying i am just kidding about being just kidding.

  3. Dreamhost is sound, secure and reliable. They’ve hosted our site since day one.

  4. Hang in there, we can handle the bumps….

I was going to suggest Dreamhost as well. I’ve had my personal site with them for over 6 years now and am very pleased.

  6. Godaddy.com is another host to check out. They have treated me very well with my site with no hick ups what so ever.

  7. Godaddy – EPM is hosted by Godaddy and quite frequently the front page will hang up while rendering a fairly basic install of Wordpres, basically quitting after the header loads and you have to hit reload to get the whole page. Happens to me on a regular basis when I visit it (which is every day). Rich says it happens to him too. I figure it must be a database connection issue, which is something I definitely don’t need.

Dreamhost – I’m moving to Drupal for the backend, I’ve heard conflicting reports about Dreamhost and Drupal. Dreamhost made the short list but I thinkI am going with another company that is actually in Washington – dotster.com (Thanks Carl)

  8. I used IX for a few months and they seemed alright, but then I read a bunch of shit about them being shady and that they were actually just featureprice (a host with a bad history that I think was shutdown) with a new name. yourhostsucks.com had a bunch of useful info, although I think it stopped getting updated a couple years ago.

  9. Now that’s the truth! I’m in the process of moving a dozen websites off ixwebhosting because of the downtime lately, and you’re absolutely right about them not coming clean about the problems. I’ve had over 6 hours of downtime each week for the last three weeks, and just like you my sites are loading so slowly now. This was their reply to my request for help:

    Dear Nicholas.
Thank you for the word to support. As far as I can see your site working properly and fast. Also we haven’t any records in our tech logs regarding problems with your web or mysql server. So please re-check your site once again. Should you have any further question feel free to contact us and we will be glad to assist you.

  10. Dotster.com supports skateboarders.

  11. […] data center this weekend. At midnight tonight (Friday) we may be down for 24-48 hours. With the track record of our host company, I’m predicting it will be more towards the latter, if not more. Of […]

  12. I have tried hostgator and Lunar Pages.. I am really happy with Lunar.. Hostgator was great as well. Lunar will give you 1500 gigs – 15000 bandwidth for 6.95 a month.. great deal. click my link on my site Help me out!! millcityskatepark.com is starting as well. Hopefully we will have a dreamland park in Mill City, OR (20 min up 22 from Aumsville.) On the river, will be sweet.
    Tim

  13. GoDaddy works fine. The EPM issue is not related to GoDaddy or database connectivity. It has to do with WordPress plugins that are active that sometimes hang based on how URL redirection is being handled.
