Baltimore cops are the coolest

Is that camera on?

I take one day off from Skate and Annoy and I’m getting pummeled by this video of a Baltimore police officer berating and briefly abusing a kid. I think he’s just pissed because he got stuck driving around in that ridiculous glorified golf cart instead of a real police cruiser. He talks about the kids disrespecting the badge and the Police Department, when really he’s more disrespectful of both by being an overweight slob and a bully. Keep watching to the very end to catch the punchline.

I actually first got this from Stephanie Murdock, president of Skatepark of Baltimore. S.O.B. (Their acronym, not my doing!) is a nonprofit organization trying to get an appropriately large, well designed and constructed skatepark built in city of Baltimore. She’s sent out a sort of a press release with some intelligent thoughts on the matter. I’ve included it with the video after the jump. Please, let’s try to discuss this constructively. If you can’t be constructive, at least be amusing.

Baltimore Police officer schools a skateboarder

Skatepark of Baltimore speaks out about the incident.

Dear Skatepark of Baltimoreans,

I am writing to discuss the “Inner Harbor Internet Incident” in which an officer is suspended after a video shows him berating a teen appears on the internet.  I am writing you as President of the “Skatepark of Baltimore” – a non profit organization whose Mission is to facilitate the construction of a pubic, concrete, destination skatepark in the City of Baltimore. I am writing you on behalf of  the 6,400 youth between the ages of 5 and 18 who compose Baltimore’s skateboarding community.  I am writing you as an advocate for Baltimore’s skateboarders who feels strongly about community issues, and the welfare and safety of those who skateboard.

This issues lies much deeper then with the police officer and the youth skateboarders in question, this issue speaks to a basic underlying needs of Baltimore’s youth and adult skateboarding community.  The popularity of Skateboarding is growing, the number of people 6 years of age or older that skateboard increased by nearly 55% from 1998 to 2003 on a national basis.*  In 2007 6,400 youth between the ages of 5 and 18 composed Baltimore’s skateboarding community.*  We owe it to our youth to provide them with appropriate facilities to recreate.  The entire skateboarding community of Baltimore is currently being underserved with the facilities we have in place and if your City dosen’t have a skatepark your City is a skatepark. The square footage of terrain needed to recreate for an audience of this size (6,400) is at least 64,000 square feet of total terrain. (SAM)  Presently Baltimore only has one public concrete outdoor skatepark, Carroll Park, which is less then 10,000 square feet.  This skatepark is the only recreational outlet available to the youth of Baltimore and past experience and frequent testimony of the parks social impact indicate that the park keeps kids off the street, in school and from engaging in illegal activities.

I am saddened by what I have read and seen of the “Inner Harbor Internet Incident.” Though all of the details remain to be seen, it is my belief that no youth illegally recreating in any manner, in any area, should ever be managed in the way I have seen in the video footage.  I have faith that the City, Police Department and the legal system will determine the best possible action, both for the responsible resolution of the incident previously mentioned and to address the needs of Baltimore’s skateboarding community.

I look forward to continuing the dialogue about this topic; I am always available for opinions, advice and expertise in the field of Skateboarding.

  1. That just makes me angry I can’t even hardly stand it. I feel sorry for that cops kids and wife, I’m sure they know not to talk back to the big man.

I noticed that vid was linked to the Baltimore Sun website I can only hope that big fat f*ck gets berated everywhere he goes now.

If that doesnt help Baltimore get a skatepark I don’t know what would. I hope they make that cop pick up garbage there.

  2. Always carry a video camera kids.

  3. DUDE! Where’s my car?

  4. can you imagine if that “dude” would have been told to fuck off like he deserved? I want to see that video.

  5. assault and theft… I guess 2 wrongs do make a right?!
and he claims the kid was disrespecting the law. I’m sure that kid will not skate that spot again, what a joke. I say prosecute him for his crimes, out of respect for the law. I’m sure Officer Riveary wouldn’t have it any other way.

A “pubic”, concrete, destination skatepark in the city of Baltimore? Well that’s just no good Stephanie.
We cant ride some big park made out of concrete and pubes, it’s a health violation and too risky of a design. Besides do you know how much it costs these days to build a skatepark? Let alone a pubic skatepark?! Pubes are high dollars these days, my friend. You cant just go getting them from joe blow down the street. Or can youuuuu…….

Oh yeah, and that cop is insufferable, he should be fired…like, out of a cannon.

  8. “Is that camera on?! ‘Cause if I find myself on Skate and Annoy, I will rip your head off and shit down your throat, young man!”

  9. That poor kid did nothing to constitute a verbal assault like that- I bet turing over the keys to his golf cart was painful for him. I wonder if Joey Williams is his Myspace buddy.

  10. there are more things to do (as a police officer) than arrest a skateboarder.

USA the most dictatorial place in the world. if its not THE WAY THEY THINK , THEY SHOOT YOU DOWN.

    false freedom, false democracy.

  11. and that POLICE car is RIDICULOuS.

Suspended, but I’m SURE he will get his job back, just like the cop from the “go skateboarding day” incident. I hope that dude golf cart gets ran down by a train.

  13. Fat fuck

  14. Everyone knows that the police are just thugs that decided it a better life choice to get paid while exerting authority and bullying people. There is a fine line between a criminal and a policeman. In this case true colours were shown.

Jakeandannoy good observation, I can’t believe I didn’t catch that before I sent the letter to the Mayor’s office, City Council and local media, oops! Maybe you could help us out and start the collection when yours grow-in! joking 🙂

  18. if those kids didn’t like kkkops before then they sure as hell aren’t too thrilled with them now.

I wasn’t born with my dislike for officers of the law, they ingrained that sentiment in me through many encounters with DUDES just like Rivieri.

  27. That cop seems to have some major issues with ranch hands and/or ranching. I wonder what this stems from? Some childhood ranching trauma? Was it that episode of Happy Days when they went to the ranch and Joanie got stuck on that runaway wagon? I know that episode scared the crap out of me, too, but I moved on.

  28. This made me so mad. Come’on mobtown send this guy straight to hell. These kids need thearapy now. i mean I hope they don’t grow up with the same hate I have for pigs like that. How bout a bootleg sticker campain with the dudes name all over it. Think and doit.

Sheesh, Stephanie, look at all the sexual harrassment you have garnered. I still agree with you on everything except the pubic park….and the insinuation that I have not yet developed pubes.(my mom says Im very handsome and have plenty)
Seriously, for the most part you were articulate and supportive and fella’s; lets refrain from further comments on Steph’s(may I call you Steph? great)
“coochie” or sex life. It’s just crude and besides, what if she skates and then you run into her at one of Baltimore’s future Pubic facilities? Then it would just be weird, especially if she rips. Then you would feel foolish, watching on the sidelines as she tears up the pubic terrain, go Steph! yaaaaay!

Cold ones; I know! WTF does he have against ranchers? At one point he asks with total contempt:
“Are from the county”? At first I thought it was a county jail reference, then I realized he meant outside city limits. The kids should have responded by saying: “yes, Im a lineman for the county”.

  54. Stephanie on February 14, 2008 - Reply

Cop: “Are you from the County, becasue I am, I grew up in Kingsville.”

  55. if this was a black kid, al sharpton would be drooling.

  56. Just protecting and serving right? Guy is acting like security guards I knew as a kid. Cops need to understand their fkn role in society and who funds their paycheck. They are our employees.

He’s only picking on those kids because he thinks he can. What a bully, I wish one of those kids dads was the DA or something. How does he think those kids will ever have respect for the law after that kind of treatment. Stupid.

He probably had other skaters run from him and tell him to fuck off so he took it out on these kids who didn’t do anything.

Why cant people skate there anyway? Infiltrate the system, when you grow up run for office.

  57. JAKEANDANNOY on February 14, 2008 - Reply

I didnt hear the “I grew up in Kingsville” part.
But wtf cares? No one asked for his bio. And the whole “ranchers say dude” is just ridiculous. The term hasnt been exlusive to ranches since about a fucking century ago. Now, in this crazy age of gasoline propelled vehicles and computer invention, dude means guy and the wooden nickle is no longer considered modern currency. Also modern fact: earrings are no longer exclusive to wealthy women or pirates And the average life span exceeds 45, and mathmatics are no longer confused with sorcery, true story!

Well Stephanie, when you finally tire of playing deceptive mind games you’ll realize some are proud of their “Kingsville” heritage, so much so that they would put their lives on the line to defend it. I dont know who those people would be since “Kingsville” sounds like some north eastern hick town, but Im sure htey are probably reading this and foaming at the mouth. Because Kingsville sounds like a town where hicks run rampant with rabies…Sorry, run rampant with babies, yes other peoples babies.

…And believe it or not it only got better from there.

  67. Too funny Cold Ones. How about “Einstein”? “I AM NOT EINSTEIN! EINSTEIN WAS A GENIUS AND INTELLIGENT! DO I LOOK INTELLIGENT TO YOU?

Just another youth going through a fundamental rite of passage.

Pretty funny that the cop asks “are you from the county or something?,” and I think the kid mumbles something about Eastern Avenue. Classic. Almost like a do-the-right-thing rip-off.

  83. Cop should have tazed the little pricks.

  84. I agree that would have been awesome.

He probably would have been indicted in addition to being fired, this of course before the civil suit filed by the parents for using lethal force on an unarmed minor.

I imagine though that the defense would be that he was illegally skating and the officer felt threatened by the skateboard, but that is not what a reasonable person would attribute to a skinny girl pants 13 year old; and what reasonable people on a jury think is appropriate is typically the precedent in a hypothetical case like that, being that the defense team has a fair shake at forming the jury.

Take into account his rap sheet of assaulting citizens and you’ve got yourself a mall security guard.

Should have tazed the little pricks.

  85. “I imagine though that the defense would be that he was illegally skating and the officer felt threatened by the skateboard,”

True that. Skateboards have been used as deadly weapons.

Tazers are not considered deadly weapons.

I assume that you have no problems with bikes barging skateparks then?

  86. the cop is fat

  87. Rivieri is a giant prick.

I thought America was the land of the free. What a travesty. We’re free to be a sheep, god forbid you try to skate a spot.

I have to add that some of those videos making fun of Rivieri are absolutely brilliant. I haven’t laughed like that in a while. good job whoever made them.
