San Jose in progress

Here are some more construction pictures from the San Jose skatepark that is in progress, courtesy of Zach Wormhoudt, which allows Larry more time for his family. So far, this is hands down the most interesting skatepark construction site I’ve seen. There are more after the jump.

Looks like some kind of spaceship… or nuclear submarine.

The waterfall in the shot below looks deadly. Maybe it’s just the lens that makes it look compressed.

  1. I agree that waterfall looks pretty steep, but BIG. Look at the size comparison to the guys working… That’s gonna be a scary fast deepend bowl… That key hole bowl looks gooood…

  2. This will make two more parks I need to skate down there.. Santa Cruz and this one… hmm…

I’m glad to see that since the cradle, or the loop-able fullpipe hasn’t done near enough damage, they’ve finally decided to create something with the pure intent of hurting people. Here’s to the quarter pipe tower!

  4. Maybe the monolith was designed at the request of Danny W. or Bob B.? Perhaps there’s a yet to be seen ramp/structure that leverages the monolith for speed? Perhaps a monkey will smack me on the head with a club?

  5. id go for a monkey,rich…

I guess it’s time to invest in some decent pads.

Is it really pay to play?

  10. They should put coping on top of the transition-side (shaded) flatwall of the monolith, as if they’re assuming that people will use it. I bet Childress would find a way.

  11. I wonder who’s going to die trying to drop in on that monolithic extension?
Crazy. and that waterfall looks scary.

guys!!!! cant you see it!! the monolith ,the full pie….. its a time machine!…. i think???!

No Waterfall is too steep! What is the problem here in San Francisco? ALL TALK + NO ACTION!!!!!

This town needs a serious facelift..

  14. i cant wait to pay 5 bucks to get harrassed about not wearing fullpads

  15. antimike on July 10, 2007 - Reply

Double A, have you been to Rattlesnake Mountain in Reno?

  16. Dan Hughes,

You can stay at my house and we can do a few slalom sessions as well.

Missed you at Hood River over the weekend. The park looks amazing.

    Judi O

  17. Thanks Judi, I will definitely keep you in mind when planning a trip down there.

Looked like Hood River was a lot of fun, once again. Maybe next time.

What I want to do is see how high I can kick turn on the Monolith, since that is one of the two tricks I know how to do (the other is a wheelie), and yeah, a kick turn is a trick… at least I’m counting it!

My son was in San Jose all of the ’05/’06 school year, and when I show him these photos he’s going to just die.

  18. jeff diction on July 10, 2007 - Reply

That looks incredible. I wish they’d give Dreamland or Grindline $3 million to build a park…

  19. That Rattlesnake Mountain waterfall is gnarly!

  20. Dick Cancer on July 10, 2007 - Reply

I’ll be the first to say “That park can go suck a donkey penis” Pay to skate! F YOU San HOSE. That waterfall looks like the shite down in reno. And that shite in reno is just more waisted tax dollars. Reno can go take a donkey penis in the rectum. Reno is a dirty little town anyway. Sort or like Tijuana another dirty little F hole. Hughes save your money.

  21. I wonder who will be the first brave soul to drop in from the top of that space oddyssey thing

  22. thank god finally a big park, depth wise,in the san jo area.
maybe all the street skating kids will learn how to skate vert and realize how boring street is.

  23. Dick Cancer on July 11, 2007 - Reply

If I ever go there, how do you get up on top of the Space oddessy, is there a elevator, stairs or a ladder?

  24. Jonny Mon Skate on July 11, 2007 - Reply

Oh Hi everybody. Let me introduce myself. I am Jonny Mon Skate.

  25. Hi Doctor Nick!

  26. I don’t even care that thing is so damn cool. I just want to see videos of straight up huge wallrides and I will be just giddy with smiles.

I think the best part of that skate ballet the Gonz did? The wallrides in that are just amazing.

  27. Brent212 on July 12, 2007 - Reply

That isn’t even a big extension. I plan on riding up the wall, pop out onto the “deck”, up the deck to the top (where they need to put some pool coping), pop a blunt to fakie back down the deck, then finish it with a half cab off where I shall land on the tranny just above the dude on the right’s hand.

    And ride away clean.

wow… guess our prayers have finally been answered:)
This park is gonna rip and once again bring San Jose back on the map for the best skate mecca around the world!

Thank you city of San Jose for finally stepping up and giving back to your community… took awhile.

It’s gonna be a great time to be a skater when this is finished.

my new local park, see ya’ll there my friends… let’s shred.

    God bless,
    Stevie

  29. Anthony on July 13, 2007 - Reply

Steve is right. It is about time we got a rad park. San Jose is pretty much a huge Skatepark anyways, but now it will have some legally legit places too.

I can’t wait for it to be finished.

  32. Skate Mecca. I understand now.

That monolith is where the muezzin will emerge and call the faithful to prayer.

    SJ minaret

  33. sick street course.. oh wait, no street course? hopefully by the time im a geezer this park will be free, cuz thatll be the only time i skate it.

  34. Eric, It took this geezer maybe 5 seconds to find the plans for the street course. Looks ok to me.
San Jose locals, this is still on, right?:

  35. went by park today it’s looking great!
oh ,by the way parking is 6 bucks, guess all the people who whined about two bucks better start looking for a job..
    peace

  36. Hopefully theyll have annual passes. But if not Ill still be there trying to keep up.

Or just park at the albertsons/strip mall, and walk a little bit. I used to skate miles(uphill both ways) just to ride a crappy ditch not more 10 short years ago.

  42. Seriously guys, knock it off. I’ve found Jesus so I don’t want anymore of tis persecution of Christ’s followers…

Just kidding. But really, let’s not bash people for what they believe in (unless it’s rollerblading) because it’s totally unproductive and doesn’t accomplish anything other than making yourself feel superior. There are other places to discuss religion or lack of religion, and this isn’t a skateboarding and religion specific post. I don’t want to have to make everyone register to leave comments, start kicking people off, etc… just try to be mostly cool.

  43. nweyesk8 on July 18, 2007 - Reply

yeah, lets not bash people for what they believe. the fact they believe is reason enough.

  47. just wondering who is overseeing work at lake Cunningham? anyone know?
noticed many of zacks parks the coping sticks out way to much. For people who grind thats cool, but for airs and big tricks it’s flat bottom city.
    Anyone have info?

  55. they should melt down that stupid waste of concrete and metal and make the parking lot. it’s a bloody monument to white tube socks, skating with a cigarette in one’s mouth, mohawks, and cuss words. nothing but a fucking playground for undeserving, lazy whitetrash. ‘hey, let’s go pound some mountain dews and shred the fuck out of that full pipe.’ ‘i’m gonna try that trick jake brown tried but i’m gonna do it switch.’
go surf or go skate the street you’ve been given you fat ass middle-aged scumbags. catch colds.

  56. HA HA HA “stop crying” your funny, and yes I can grind.
IF you want to see a man skate ,I go to S.C. skate park every once and a while,I’ll be the one everyone is filming.
also I don’t know when the last time I paid for anything skate related.I have a few friends in the biz.

AGRSESSION fab is good saw him at protec pool party, drank some beers with him, grosso, fish and bunch of Del Mar guy at private party Steven van doren(vans) had,It was kill free beer. peace

  57. Hey kid, come here, wanna see a man skate? We can do some grooming afterward.

  58. almost a waste of money, not much will be happening on that, so crazy that its for the most part not skateable.

  59. Yo Greg, its really not all about who you know and where you go. Found this on Skateboard Archives, where GA has posted up a bunch of pictures of himself and nobody else (no kidding):

lucky for us in san jose, chris cook only leaves pacifica twice a year…. to skate a couple of contests way out of his league & get knocked out cold straight into last place.

  65. jeff diction on September 20, 2007 - Reply

cooksie’s the only reason the pacifica park is skateable…and after watching him absolutely shred that thing, I hope you got skills, norcal kook…if not, keep your pie hole shut.

  66. nocal kook on September 20, 2007 - Reply

he defenately shreds thats not the question.. now that I had a minute to think, it’s probably somebody pretending to be cooksie anyway. sorry, thats why I’m a kook

  67. did someone mention the channel ramp? That was my first vert ramp over in the SJ area around Del Roble elementary school. I used to drag my launch ramps over to the school and skate with J Fab and his homies. Got a ton of free product too, thanks John.

Hopefully some of the old crews will show up at this new park, looking great btw, and we can talk about the old SJ days riding bullets and doing street plants for hours.

I do not see any issue with paying 6 bucks to park if they use the money to maintain it. It did cost more to skate at Vans before they closed it down.

  68. hey guys, love it or hate it but the park’s now open, at least today and friday until 7. then the 26th its officially open. come on down! that fullpipe is gnar.
