Tony Hawk Six Flags demo

Old friend of Skate and Annoy Bob Mechtly sent in these pictures of a Tony Hawk demo at Six Flags. Bob didn’t send any details, but near as I can tell from the color cast of these pictures, the event was held in the late 70’s, probably underwater. But seriously folks! Take my wife, please! Maybe it was just an added attraction, or maybe he was promoting the new Tony Hawk’s Big Spin ride, which would be odd since these shots are from Missouri and the Big Spin is at a different Six Flags in Texas. I love the kid looking in the opposite direction as if to say “I wish I was riding on that roller coaster instead of sitting on my dad’s shoulders watching this carnival sideshow.” Check out the size of that screen. Jeebus, that’s huge!

  1. I love how Tony’s doing a bigger air than I’ve ever done with a bike guy flying over him.

  2. yeah, that bike is up there. I’m sure tony could go higher than he is, but bikes will always be able to go higher. Triples routine. Crazy.

That big screen is a weird juxtaposition with real life. They should have the demo and just play Tony Hawk video games on the giant screen. That would probably keep that kid’s attention.

  3. Notice the bored kid is gone in the second pic, but Dad is still there! 🙂 I think this is the new “Huck Jam” format. It’s only done at 6Flags parks now. I’ve seen it twice in an arena, and it is GREAT. But you really have to be a fan and have a decent seat to really appreciate it. I’m a simpleton and loved the fact that Kevin Staab was rippin’ simple but huge backside airs. Gettin’ Lil’ Tony pics with a few pros before the show at an autograph signing was pretty cool too…
