Blazing Wheels and Barking Trucks

Blazing Wheels and Barking Trucks

Blazing Wheels and Barking Trucks was my introduction to so-called Skate Rock. I say so-called because it’s not a very cohesive term, more of what can’t be defined as opposed to a specific genre. At the time it came out, it wasn’t important that the musical styles weren’t conventional matches. It was as if having the nerve to listen to such a mess of disparate tunes was enough declare yourself a weirdo, well that and your skateboard. Seems unfathomable now though. Why must I babble on when Last Days of Man on Earth is much more succinct. You used to be able to buy a shoebox full of old Skate Rock cassettes from Thrasher. They should do a proper rerelease of the early stuff on CD. Until then you have get yours from Last Days of Man on Earth. Anyone heard the most recent Skate Rock?

  1. I digitized my LP of this just last week, anybody want one? The highlight is the intrumental by Free Beer (Guerrero bros.).

  2. Hey how about a head count of any readers who own this on vinyl? So far me, Randy and Neil are all holding….

    Neil, appraisel?

  3. never liked any of them apart from the first one: the cassette only one. The rest were too hit and miss, and some of the bands’ skate roots are really in question. Of course, that never stopped me from going down to Record Swap and buying them.

  4. A friend of mine sings a real good song called strong as a mountain check it out at sgrover1 youtube bitches.

  5. review agression’s newest album, grind kings!!! you know you want to.

  6. Paige, you read my mind. In my opinion Agression is the definitive skate rock band, along with JFA. Isn’t Grind Kings re-recordings of their classics? I always dug that song “Dear John Letter”…

  7. grind kings was suggested entirely tongue-in-cheek. i, too, love agression, but in my opinion, their new releases of the older stuff blow. (for instance, full circle? yack.) don’t be mistaken is the best, though, for sure.

  8. Someone sent me the new Aggression CD right before I left for the holidays. I kind of forgot about it. I need to get on that review.

  9. Neil’s “hit or miss” remark is about right, talk about disjointed- It appears that TSOL submitted 2 tracks to this comp. each with different singers! That has to be some kind of first…

  10. Didn’t the main guy from Agression die a few years back? So who’s in this new lineup?

  11. The main dude Mark Hickey died in 2000. Their original guitarist died in 2002. As far as I can tell, only the bassist and drummer remain to make Agression! Hmm, what would Henry Rollins do?

    I’m curious about their singer.
