Tony Hawk In Winnipeg Skatepark

Hawk Does Winnipeg, Does a Move.

Excuse me. The caption reads “…tries out a move…” which begs a few questions. What move did he try, and did he indeed like the move? Was he able to return the move without a receipt? Did he buy the extended warranty in case he had the misfortune to bust a move? Links and more after the jump.

Dang. This post covers two things I’ve been lax at. I need to get on the GratuitousTonyHawk.com web site. Then there’s the issue of the new Canadian uber-park in Winnipeg. The newspapers in the area have been peppered with “Skateboarding Legend Tony Hawk Visits Local Park” stories. Although, he did get second billing to Bam in the Winnipeg Sun. Check it.

Tony Hawk Winnipeg Skate Park Hey Photog! Save your ones and zeros, that pic is not going to be worth anything and memory cards don’t grow on trees you know.

Now the poor guy is now getting second billing to Bam Margera!

Bam over Hawk

In all fairness, it is a web site devoted to showbiz stuff, and Bam does have a movie out. Check it. There’s a good bit (overstatement) about a local meeting Hawk.

Among those who had the honour of skating with Hawk and his cronies was Thunder Bay resident Adam Hopkins, a 16-year-old who’s spearheading an initiative to have a skatepark built in his hometown. Hopkins was last in Winnipeg when he won the Red Bull Jam at our skatepark’s grand opening but had no idea he’d be meeting Hawk until he showed up at The Forks yesterday morning.

“They all just came along and said, ‘Hey, Adam,’ ” recalls his mother, who was in on the ambush. “He was skulked. It was a major surprise.”

Hey mom, not exactly the word you were looking for. You’ve just called your son a deadbeat and or a coward or a thief.

Lastly, there’s the subscription only article in thew Winnipeg Sun, which I’m not about to plunk down $12 a month to view online, so I can’t tell you if it’s amusing or not. Someone want to send me the contents?

  4. Ahhh, the old misquote. Bummer.

  5. […] It looks like Mom was misquoted. Instead of calling her son a deadbeat, coward and thief., she actually said “stoked” according to Adam’s comments. […]

  6. I didn’t get down to the park when Tony Hawk was here, but Here’s some video from when the park opened back in July.
