Strongest of the Strange from Pontus Alv, circa 2005. The video was filmed from 2002 to 2005, and is the handy work of Pontus Alv. This is one of my all-time favorite skate videos. It seems like they really put a lot of energy and time into the skating/filming/editing. Its not only long, but its filled with all kinds of terrain and styles of skateboarding. Various skits are thrown in throughout the video, which verge on the comedic art scene. Those of you that are afraid of seeing a penis should probably skip through the first section. We don’t want your fragile little brain to explode. More after the jump.

-Le Boxx

Some of the best parts of this video involve the Savanna Side Bowl in Malmo, Sweden. They have tried to build this thing up two times already. The second incarnation was called Steppe Side, which was just recently torn out. From what I understand, the land that the bowl was sitting on was unusable. The owner of the land was even OK with the skaters building the bowl there. I’m guessing it was city officials that decided to have it destroyed(twice).

This ‘n That from Andy Evans, circa 2007. This video focuses on the UK skateboarding scene, but has skaters from all over Europe and the US.

There are various skits thrown in which are hilarious at times and show some great creativity on behalf of Andy Evans. The skating is Top Notch, and well rounded too, with a good mix of all types of terrain and styles. Yes, that includes freestyle, which barely seems to exist here in the US. I have to thank Matt Sefton for showing me this video when we posted some Grabke updates earlier this year. While some people here in the US are bagging on each other for the terrain they choose to skate, in Europe they seem to embrace all kinds of skating. The key here is to have fun, it doesn’t matter what type of skating you are doing. Now watch the video and calm your ass down already.

Featured Skaters: Ben Raemers, Chris Vile, Josh Roullion, Rodney Clarke, Danny Wainwright, Simon Skipp, Darren Nolan, Pete King, Neil Smith, Mikey Wright, Chalba, Paul Rimmer, Amir Williams, Greg Nowik, Ross McGouran and James Gardner

Vox was formed by Ed Dominick, Dr. Chen (Osiris Shoes) and Nathan Peacher in 2005. This is what it says in their “About Me” on their Myspace page:

Im either made out of canvas or suede, ive got a lace that ties me together and keeps me on your feet, weigh a few oz. I come in various colors and styles. Can be found ONLY in skateshops. I like to go and hang out in skateparks, rails, pools, legdes, ditches, parking curbs, gaps, hills, concrete, wood,…Basically anything skateable, im there.

Seems about right to me. I really like the the skaters Vox sponsors. They are pretty well rounded; with a couple of vert/bowl riders and some younger street skaters like David Gravette stepping up in the ranks.
Tilt Mode! from Tilt Mode Army, circa 2000. Tilt Mode Army is a group of skaters out of San Jose, California. The videos are the mastermind of Matt Eversole, Chris Avery and Jesse Erikson, with help from NC Clothing. The Tilt Mode videos seem to be more about having a good time with friends rather than landing a single trick after fifty tries, which makes the video stand out from all the others out there. A lot of companies now-a-days could learn a lesson from these guys.

Louie Barletta has always been one of those skaters that is pushing the envelope of new tricks. Even if he doesn’t land a trick, you can see he is at least trying something new, which just hasn’t been happening in more recent skate videos. Even if you aren’t into watching a ton of street skating I suggest you give this video a good watchin’.

Featured Skaters: Louie Barletta, Chris Black, Steve Caballero, Edward Devera, Jesse Erickson, Ricky Espinoza, Matt Eversole, Jerry Hsu, Joe Hutchison, Marc Johnson, Scott Morrison, Jose Rojo, Paul Sharpe, Doug Shoemaker, Aaron Vandenbulke, Chris Yamacoshi

We haven’t written about Claus Grabke for at least a month now, so I had to go searching on my computer for this fantastic piece of work. You can believe the words from Grabke’s mouth, or see the utter truth that is this video.

I had no idea where this was even from, but I obviously thought it was important enough to save. (Matt Sefton later informed us that the part is from “This ‘N ‘That” by Andy Evans, a filmmaker from the UK.)

Gnar Gnar from Krooked Skateboards, circa 2007. This is a limited edition VHS from the Gonz and his boys at Krooked. The entire video is filmed using VHS Camcorders. There are rumored to be only 1,000 copies on the market. You might be able to find one on eBay for around $50.00+ or so at this point. The video is great in my opinion! Each of the skater’s parts are interesting, and you can tell they were filmed on the fly. It sort of beckons to the days of making homemade skate videos with your friends. Bring back DIY to skateboarding!
Too Loud for the Crowd from One Fifty One, circa 1998. This video may be short, but its packed with some rad skatin. More after the jump!

One Fifty One was a skateboard company that was really in touch with its roots. They knew that throwing money around and following passing fads wasn’t the path of creating a good skate company. They had the DIY, underground ethic that is what skateboardings all about. There aren’t a lot of companies out there that run themselves this way anymore. Except of course some of our local favorites here in Portland like ColdWar, Merde, Rebel, and Bacon. In 2003 One Fifty One was sold by Imperial Distribution. The new owner tried to keep things going, but eventually One Fifty One faded out.

On a somewhat related note Neil Heddings will be released from prison on May 24th. Shirley Bookey is getting a benefit together for Neil. The event will take place March 31st in McMinniville, OR. There will be a huge raffle with stuff from Sacrifice, NHS, and a whole bunch of others. Be on the look out for more info on the Sacrifice Website.

Featured Skaters: Eric Dressen, Matt Dyck, Neil Heddings, Pigpen, Chris Swanson, Ben Beasley, Randy Colvin, Dave Coyne, Sam Hitz, John Jarvis, Wez Lundry, Jimi Moore, Stoney, and Texas Dan
