Ballet, skateboarding, and no Gesmer?

Graham Taylor has made a video comparing skateboarders to modern ballet dancers. It includes some UK footage from the 90’s on. Noticeably present, the Craig Stecyk quote about technology, a cement playground and the minds of 11 year olds. Noticeably absent is the Daniel Gesmer spotlight. In any case, It’s an odd little film that […]

How to pump

Gesmer!

Ran across this 1989 article (oops, not 1979) by Daniel Gesmer, who we have featured before, on the Seismic Skate website while researching for another post. Gesmer has a site called Geo Skate that sells Seismic and Bottega Montana skateboards.

Cirque De Soleil

Cirque De Soleil hiring a street skater. (Attention Daniel Gesmer!!)

Cirque De Soleil is hiring a street skater. “We are currently seeking a Skateboard – Street Specialist for our new production at the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York city. Please note that we are not looking for Ramp’s specialists. ” This sounds like Daniel Gesmer’s dream job, and they are hiring immediately. […]

Never the twain shall meet?

Oh you kids and your mash-ups. Check out this vid from Brett Novak, you know, Skateboarding Visual Effects Artist Extraordinaire? The skating on this is a mix of 70’s freestyle, 80’s streetstyle and well, 90’s freestyle meets modern street skating. Heck, there are even some moments to make Dan Gesmer proud. There will be haters, […]

Cuppa Stoke

I bought some Cuppa Stoke coffee online from the creator of the Skateboarder’s Journal. Friend of the site, (whether he knows it or not,) Dan Gesmer came up with the name! If you can get past it, the coffee is pretty good. My palate isn’t as refined as it once was, but good coffee is […]

Mark Gonzales in a music video

Recycled Gonz

I’m not sure what the barometer is for art and skateboarding, but the difference between eccentricity and just plain crazy is often a matter of how rich the person in question is. Likewise, you can bet that if Dan Gesmer had put on this performance instead of Mark Gonzales, it wouldn’t have been as well […]

I love it when commercial concerns address me as “dude”

As in when CafePress sends me an email with the subject line:Dude! Check out these cool designs for skaters and surfers. so I could check out the almost 5000 designs they have with the keyword skateboarding. Some of them are really bad too. Is that supposed to be Daniel Gesmer burning in hell? Halfpipe Dreams?

In an alternate universe…

… street skating is based on the stylings of Daniel Gesmer!
