Perfect Execution

Long story short. Penny Skateboards in Australia is making injection molded plastic skateboards with wheels that use modern bearings and mounting hardware. It’s retro in more ways than one because they come in all kinds of 2000 era iMac colors. The video spot for these boards is really well done. The whole execution of this idea is excellent, and near perfect. The one flaw? The wheels on the yellow board should be red. Every single banana board that was actually banana-colored had red wheels. One more cool thing, these boards are actually manufactured in Australia. As cool as those Creature coffin boards are, I like these better. I wish the web site had detailed images, I’d like to get a look at those trucks. So far skate shops only, Penny isn’t selling direct. Catch the vid after the jump.

It looks like the yellow does have red wheels? What am I missing?

Nice idea, too bad the website sucks ass. And you need to be able to buy these direct.

    1. They look redish, but on the product blow up (click on the boards) they are amber.

  3. That was pretty awesome.

  4. Is that J.C. Penney?

Curtis Mayfield! Can’t go wrong there.

If you want to have red wheels, just buy two (one for your kid??) and swap the wheels…duh.

    But $149? Ouch.

not to mention the extra 5 for someone to switch wheels.. and the 65 for delivery by snail.. only 101 extra if you want it delivered a bit faster.

wish i didn’t break the trucks off my old jar-jar binks banana haha. i think i paid 10 for it. if i stood with one foot in the middle of it it dragged on the ground.

these boards look awesome but who’s going to pay that kind of money for one.. chances are you’re not going to be able to test one out before you drop the cash either

  8. Today at my closest park, a kid rolls by on a plastic board. I yell “Cal 240”, no response. “Freeformer”, still no response. “Grentec Coyote”, the kid stops runs over with it laughing, in awe that I’d named the set up that’s 20 years older than he is.

    1. WINNER: Skaterdave!

      That’s a great story.
