eBay Watch: October 2009

000-ebay-oct09

So October 2009 was a big one. If this was anything to go by, then we can say that the downtown is over, at least in regards to the pocketbooks of serious skate collectors! Lots of stuff went for over $1000, and some went far higher than that. What do some of our big spenders do for a living I wonder? And are they even skaters? Or do we have art collectors out there who are starting to expand into old skateboards? Or do we have famous/rich folk who used to skate and who know want to recapture a piece of their youth and they don’t care what it costs to reclaim it? And just who the fuck has $5,000 discretionary income burning a hole in their pocket these days anyway? Just some interesting thoughts to ponder.

I had one of those World Industries boxes with the Natas graphic. Remember when Big Brother had a subscription coupon: “Free board with subscription”, that’s how I got it. Danny Way Raggedy Andy board came in it, but I kept the box hanging on my wall.

UPS driver asked me if he could have the box… “No way dude, keeping that for myself”

The Nash fifteen toes was my first board ever!!! A friend found one at a garage sale for a dollar a few years back and picked it up for me…

Wayne Browns Skateboards were made my Wayne Brown surfboards:

  4. ticorico says:

what price did the Steve Douglas go for?

  5. houseofneil says:

Shoot, sorry about that! The Douglas went for $101.

  6. shvitz says:

That Jeff Kendall deck was the first non-department store deck I ever had; fluorescent yellow dip.

Thrown away by Mom when I moved out.

  7. Tim says:

Hey thanks for Ebay watch! I seen my boards a few times in the ast few years, Thanks. I sold the Big Foot in octobers and wanted to et ya know the trucks are Megatrons and the wheels are UFO Saucers, and yes they are wide.
    Later, Tim….aka skikatdaddio

  8. conahan says:

That Natas Challenger explosion graphic is amazing. Great Roy Lichtenstein sunday funnies execution, an instantly recognizable moment in time, and crass insensitivity. If only they had worked a skull or beer logo into the design.

  9. mike says:

    The makaha is a new reissue.They have 3 or 4 out now…

  10. Talentlessquitter says:

I was bidding on that black Walker freestyle but I had a determined competitor.I just couldn’t spare over a hundred bucks at that moment.
I really regret not having won….Blast!

The Lance Mountain does look very touched, scratched and wheathered to me in that picture…

Still love the Ebay-watch,keep it going!

  11. JAKEANDANNOY says:

Thanks Neil, nostalgic as always. I had the Marty Jimenez when It first came out. I was 11 and got mine at a skate shop inside of a KB’s Toy Store in the mall. They also sold “Bones” sweatpants and JimmyZ.

  12. Vegetable Lasagna says:

I had a Blockhead made by Uncle Wiggly way back. It had
Easter Island heads on it. That was a fun deck when it
started getting all flexy. I was breaking decks at that
time so I didn’t mind the flex as long as it stayed in
    one piece.

  13. houseofneil says:

mike, I don’t think it’s a reissue. The only Makaha reissues I have found are the solid oak and ash ones. Not a fiberglass like this one. If you have a link to a yellow fiberglass reissue like this, please post it.

  14. mike says:

Theres one up right now for 89.99 buy it now.I dont know how to post a link.if you search ”makaha limited run”you should get it.After reading the description though it says nos. So i dont know.It also says produced to promote the upcoming makaha documentary.seems strange.Check it out and tell me what you think.mike

  15. houseofneil says:

Mike, thanks for the head up. It is weird, that is for sure. What I can glean from the auction is that the decks are NOS stock from the 70s, but they are not Makaha decks. They are generic decks that they applied the diecut griptape to. The wheels are definite reissues of a Makaha wheel from the 70s, and the trucks are Suregrip trucks, so they might be NOS too? It’s a bizarre mish-mash of old and new parts. It’s still a nice looking complete though.

  16. Danimal says:

wow almost $1100 for that ron chapman. i had that one, broke doing a lipslide on a ledge.

  17. Dean Bures says:

The Steadham also has extensive water damage(can’t be seen from bottom), damaged more than just the stain fade.

  18. mike says:

Follow up on limited run Makaha’s..The deck is an mpi lemon drop shorty, being sold at several online shops such as discountlongboards.com as a new board without anything from the 70′s or nos in the descryption. There are those mpi boards on ebay right now, listed as nos 70′s and found info of them being sold in bulk at low prices in the recent past.I did find an old pair of nos rector type padded gloves at bigeskateboards.com as marco polo gloves and theres that mpi logo on the package. So there you go.I guess they either made a hell of alot of those boards back in the day that didn’t sell or they are still being manufactured.Either way.Thought it might be interesting.Mike

  19. Dan says:

if you happen to see any more z-roller trucks PUHLEEEEEZ send me an e-mail…..I am a skater who will pay to shred on those things…I miss mine sooo much….If i had paid $200.00 bucks for them you could rest assured that they would be on a board and grinding the gnarliest 30 foot long brick planters and whatever else got in my way….please help meeee!!!!!! alexander.daniel2918@yahoo.com
