Then and now: Collectable drink cups

That video of Rob Dyrdek eating it pretty hard while dressed up as a Carls Jr mascott has been making the rounds lately. He’s got some promotional drink cups coming out through Carls Jr, who have also made a donation to the Skate Plaza foundation. This is as good an excuse as any to trot out these old 70’s era collectable skateboard cups from 7-11.

These cups used to be more of a big deal. They were made out of a heavier grade plastic and would actually withstand quite a few cycles in the dishwasher before getting worn. I found these over at Gasoline Alley Antiques, where they’ve been for sale for years.

Here’s Rob’s version. They don’t appear to have anything to do with skateboarding except by association with Dyrdek. He should recreated the old ones himself. I don’t think anyone would have gotten it though.

And because we can… Here’s the Happy Star video.
