80's vert Challenge

SoCal Skateparks has a bunch of video from the 80’s vert challenge that happened at some point in time that is probably still sitting unread in my Google Alerts mailbox. Low purse and high fun. Everyone wore neon, and Hosoi complete with spandex and hair extensions should have won best-dressed, although maybe he did, as there was a special cash prize for finishing dead last. Check it out on SoCal Skateparks Skate-TV. - Thanks to JF for the tip.

grosso cheated. he had a popsicle shape, but his eggplants are awesome as heck. staab shoulda wore his old clam digger pants!!

Grosso has never ridden a popsicle shape. He’s basically been riding the same shape since his first Schmitt Stix deck in ‘86. His boards now just have a bigger nose and more concave. Pretty weird that Hawk was sporting a Flyaway helmet instead of his trademark pink Pro-Tec. Hosoi had every detail nailed, Hammerhead shape circa ‘86, original Santa Cruz Speed Wheels Hosoi Rockets, goofy-ass spandex, gold watch, etc. Stabb wasn’t sporting work gloves or shorts over sweatpants like he used to. No big surprise that Miller or Blender didn’t show up.

Bucky Lasik and Andy Macdonald are like 2 turds in a punchbowl at this…

  5. Kilwag Says:

Wha? Andy’s run is right in there. Big whopping McTwist and all

  6. JF Says:

Hosoi was the best by far I thought. Spot on and still so stylish. I can watch him skate all day. Fun to see Hawk shred as well.

    Don’t overlook cab’s suspenders.

    Sea cliff’s right about Hawk’s helmet, should-a-been a pink pro-tec.

I just love seeing the old tricks.

who was riding that Jeff Phillips?

  9. JF Says:

Eric Nash was riding the Phillips.
