Sarah Palin: Skateboard Harassment

Skate Harassment at the Executive Level

I missed this on Skate Daily, but it looks like John McCain’s running mate Sarah Palin is a fervent skateboard harasser. She supported penalties for using skateboards on public or private property as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska.

“ — after the expected opening of the $233,000 Wasilla Skate Park — skaters will be breaking the law if they use their skateboards, in-line skates, bicycles, scooters (or any other recreational, non-motorized wheeled device) on public or private property where signs are posted forbidding their use.”

OK, fines for skating on public property where a sign is posted seems like something that falls within the realm of the law, whether you agree with the inherent justness of the law or not. Penalties start with a written warning and escalate to fines and eventual permanent confiscation. However, skateboard specific fines and the permanent forfeiture of your property for skateboarding on private property where a sign forbids it seems like an entirely different matter. I wonder if she’d support forfeiture of personal firearms in cases of trespassing that didn’t involve assault or some other violent crime. It’s doubtful.

In any case, it’s a great excuse to post the SNL video with Tina Fey as Sarah Palin and Amy Poehler as Hilary Clinton. It’s pretty funny, no matter what side of the political spectrum you are on.

– Thanks to FUEL.TV for the tip. [Source: Politico]

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler as Sarah Palin and Hilary Clinton.

There might be a short advertisement before the video plays, but embedding the sanctioned clip means I don’t have to keep fixing broken links from YouTube videos that are being removed.

  1. One more reason to puke. Holy shit though, what an amazing imitation.

With the selection of Palin the Republicans basically spit in our countries face. They are once again betting on our being uninformed and ignorant. You have to either be poor and stupid, or rich and greedy to support them. The party of the dumb and the rich.

They are going down this time. Power to the people.

  2. […] After you are done registering, check out some SNL political humor over at SnA. […]

Saw that clip yesterday! Good stuff. If only the pitbull could get her lipstick on straight….at least she has her glasses on to keep an eye on Russia from her deck.

  4. Wait, someone running for office thinks skateboarders are not above the law? That is crazy talk!
Joking aside, if I owned a business and some bmxers were fucking up my shit, I would be very grateful to have the law on my side. Why should it be any different for skateboarders?

Sounds like the same law that is in most places already.

It’s really not a big deal.

  6. I lived in Alaska when they put up that awful park. They took a great design, and had a local yokel concrete contractor put the plan into action. Yuck.

Wasilla, AK is probably the worst place to skate, even if you are at the park. I know. Hatcher’s Pass is rad for snowboarding though.

    Sarah Palin can bite me.

  7. As an outsider over in Spain, I have to agree with SSK. Palin is just another stooge for Bush,Rove and Cheny. I really hope that the American people can see through this. The rest of the world doesn’t want another four years of phoney wars followed by the economical hardship they cause. Aaah… I feel better now.

  8. what about a coat hanger in a back alley?

  9. Fey is a dead ringer for Palin. NBC will be bummed if McCain wins because then they’ll have to pony up the $$$ to get Fey on SNL on a regular basis.

The Wasilla skate scene has never seen so much coverage.

  10. The distinction in this law is the fines and forfeiture of property as relating specifically to skateboarding on private property. When you jog on private property, you might expect to get fine or citation for tresspassing, but not to get your running shoes confiscated.

I think there is a distinction, although I seem to be having difficulties distinguishing it.

Uh, politics. I thought this is a skateboarding site? You know, skateboarding, the only thing I would ever agree with you left-coast fanatics.

  14. benny, not all of us left coasters are the tree hugging unwashed types.

  15. But most of us are. Weeee heeeee….

  17. Hopefully folks will vote and not be apathetic. Get informed and get involved. Don’t assume someone else is going to look out for your best interest. All I wanted was a Pepsi….

  18. if you dont vote you cannot complain. im writing in jack from jack in the box.

  19. unfortunately for us the Salt Lake County Health Department hates skateboarders even more: On August 7th, 2008 they passed a new ordinance which prohibits the use of any skate ramps on a residential property. The reasoning they have used to issue this ordinance is based on “Noise Pollution”….

4.5.21. Sporting Ramps. No person shall build or use nor shal any person cause, allow, or permit anyone to build or allow anyone to use any skateboard, roller blade, bicycle, or snowboard ramp or half-pipe or similar configuration within 800 feet of a dwelling, except within facilities that have been designated for such use by government entity.

Funny how a department looking out for the health of it’s citizens is banning outdoor activities. First lucky winner of a visit from the Health principal is Nick Hale who started a website opposing it.

  20. Does anyone see the puppet strings on her? What a pawn.
I sure as f dont want my Dad, Grandpa or that white hair old dude running the country into the ground, the most impt. thing to them is $$, HE will run a never ending war, that makes our econ. in crap & dollar worth nothing, plus the world hate us more. Think of the skateparks we could of built with those trillions wasted on trying to promote democracy & secure oil, or the difference we could of made to help our country, society, & the world, all is wasted on killing machines & if you didn’t know Iraq was not about WMD’s it was ultimately a war for regime change, we are the ones still building weapons of mass destruction. Bush is the dumbest President ever, and the best bullsh__ter. The Patriot Act is not very patriotic, & how many lies, firing, botched hiring & Hurricane support, warrentless wiretapping etc.. anyone else would of been impeached with ease, s they tried to do that to Bill and all he did was get his d sucked. F politics. “Govt, is not the solution, Govt. is the Problem”, “Ronald Regan” We are all doomed untill we organize & start the SKATEBOARD Party,, POwer to the People!! Insite Riot & CHaos.. Next I ll get locked up for freedom of speach.. for eternity in guantanamo with no habius corpus, Oh thats already happening! lol

JM, thank you for making my “left coast fanatics” point all the more clear. Bush is a bad president. We get it. Have you ever looked beneath the surface at some of Clinton’s policies? Both of the major political parties are failures. I don’t beleive that america is stupid for re-electing Dubya, they had a pretty bad alternative. I, one, will never vote for the Democrats because of the simple fact that they want to a larger (therefore inherently more inefficient) government.

In all seriousness, if you like freedom, vote Liberatarian.

  22. Friends don’t let friends be one issue voters. What does “bigger government” mean anyway? Bigger debt? Bigger defense budget? Bigger “Big Brother”? Bigger companies bailed out after deregulation led them astray?

“Bigger/smaller government” is nothing but a hot air political screw that people turn.

    What is a public skatepark?

  23. benny b bones on September 17, 2008 - Reply

You are right, my explanation was indeed overly simplified. When I mean when I say “bigger government” is realy taxes. I am aware that taxes do pay for some very beneficial things, including public skateparks. The government across the board does more good than bad though. In all honesty, the biggest issues for me are pro-gun, legalization of drugs, and a less militant forgien policy. Neither of the two political parties can meet those. The Liberatarians do.

Well, I wish I had more to say but I am going skateboarding now instead. Remember skateboarding? It is what we all used to argue about. Maybe another “BMX ruined our coping” story could help steer the conversation back on track? Anyone?

  24. Did I mention Dem or Repub. Your the fanatic, Get off it bro. Free your mind.. lol, 2 party systems suck i agree. Big Govt, & taxes suck for sure, but so does throwing away our freedom & future, not to mention destroying the world & earth, Funny the BUsh Doctorine is not BIG GOVT? OUR Freedoms are eroding away with all these BS laws THreats etc.? Without getting FANatic there is a lot we wont know that govt. did, behind WE THE PEOPLES back in every presidents terms for another 40years. How much collatoral damage is acceptable in any war? Its all big business & contracts to Govt. somebodys making money and it sure is not the common man or middle class or the working class. 100,000 200,000 Iraq civilians dead and my taxes pay for that & to get lied to about invading countrys for politics regime change? make my dollar shrink etc..? I care about the future, people & the world not just MY selfish luxury & quality of life here in the USA. I pitch in to make this world and every skatepark, river etc.. a better place. Maby everyone needs to think about what THEY & WE can do and our collective, that will help to make OUR reality manifest in a positive way. IT is US Skateboarders after all. We do have power & strength in numbers, S&A I mean T&A for President! Talk about politics & religion suck,
there are politics on this website though, make no mistake and I ain’t talkin about the govt. type.. So keep hating or make the change, (no party puns intended lol) Calm down YO, this is SKATE & ANNOY right so they go hand & hand, get annoyed if you want, I don’t give a F, I ll just ramble I mean SKate on.. smiles.. Next Time I ll write a book.
Im in the Skateboard Party Bra, I mean Skateboard & Party thats me.

  25. Right on JM.

Normally politics should be left out, but it’s just too important right now. Plus isn’t it fair game in this thread? My personal view is that it is our civic fucking duty to talk about this shit, at least a little bit.

Anyway, how many voting age skaters are there in America? If we had politicians courting the “Skater Vote” shit would be very different.

  26. Its easy to get carried away, no offence to anyone really. We are all skateboarders(except for the BMXers) Let me rephrase this, We are all Riders, so that does give us something in common, and even though we have different opinions hopefully we can respect each others(unless they are wrong) and have some common ground.. (insert random cursing and laughing here.) @#!$^& ha ha

I just believe, “It is better to voice your opinion(even if you are wrong) then to not speak at all!

I think that might be what skate and annoy is all about in a way. NoW… Unleash the Hounds..

  27. I saw the banner for additional contributers, so I contributed!

  28. I didn’t watch it. To me it’s like ridicule of George Bush. The reality is too sickening for it to be funny.

Comedians are making a quick buck on this stuff at the expense of the future. The entertainment equivalent of the people who brought you the sub-prime mortgage crisis. We need to bury the idea of people like GWB and Palin in a deep hole and forget them, not allowing them any mind share whatsoever. You lower yourself by giving them any attention, you keep them in the news.

  29. to all the skate brethren: VOTE!!!!

  30. Quick buck???? Sometimes all you can do is laugh, I like the skit. Comedians are artists they deserve just as much respect for their hard work as anyone.

Ahhhhhhh! Just got back from skateboarding. Felt good to strectch my legs. You guys should try it sometime.

On a more serious note, the two party system is what has gotten us here today. Bush’s policies fucked America, but his policies were popular when he was first elected. As were Clintons, as were the first Bush’s, etc. The back and forth swing of our current political system has gotten us nowhere. Every 4 to 8 years we have a different set of assholes in office who attempt to undo the previous asshole’s mess. This is why I advocate a third party; namely the Liberatarian Party, but any legitamate third option would suffice for me. All of this Red vs. Blue bullshit keeps us going in circles and inhibits any real progress.

  32. wow. I’m glad i locked our politics forum earlier this year.

  33. Benny, you got lights??? lucky.

I think both parties are puppets, some secret group controls the whole thing. They keep us busy fighting left to right. Doesn’t matter who wins they run both sides.

    the future is.

Anarchy, third definition on dictionary dot com:

a theory that regards the absence of all direct or coercive government as a political ideal and that proposes the cooperative and voluntary association of individuals and groups as the principal mode of organized society.

  34. WARNING Blog Text Threat Level has been raised to RED!! Don’t do it, don’t comment, you might get caught up(in politics or other garbage)..
When our govt. started (if you didn’t know) their was 3 or 4 partys or more. What retoric is this, All I want is another party with 10 kegs. Yes we do have the power together (riders) to organize a 10 kegger! “If we do not all hang together, we shall all certainly hang seperately” Ben Franklin

I think I realized why so many fore fathers had multiple different versions of the same quotes.. They either found a better way to say what they ment, couldn’t remember what they wanted to say, or just said things a variety of ways, with that in mind.

“I think it is better to Stand Up for what you believe in,(even if you are wrong) then to never stand up(speak up) for nothing at all!”

I saw the banner for additional contributers, so I contributed! Gnar..dee Har ..harrr sh

  35. JM good stuff man.

brianb, That ordinance is devastating and unfair. Is there anything other stater skaters can do to help? Rent you a moving truck? 😉
