New York behind the Times
July 31st, 2008 by Kilwag

This is kind of an old item already, but for some reason the New York Times has picked up on the release of Jay Adams from prison. I had wondered whether he was officially done with his time or whether he was on some sort of probation. The Times says he’s at a halfway house serving out the remaining months of his four year sentence. I’ve often wondered how that whole prison release thing works, fortunately I don’t know the details. Looks like he’s working for Hurley maintaining their private skate facility. Check out the pic above right. Apparently Hurley is exploring a marketing image that wants to intimidate the hell out of prospective clothes buyers. You can get the full effect at the NYT article by enlarging it. I wonder if Jay knew that the prison he was serving time in was only about 15 minutes away from the world class Aumsville, Oregon skatepark? I thought I read that he took a cab to a bus station in Portland. With Hurley’s parent company Nike so close in Beaverton, Oregon you’d think someone could have picked him up. I can’t find that bit of info anymore, so I might have imagined the cab ride. I know at least one soul who would have jumped at the chance to provide the hour long lift. No, it’s not me, but I mean, if I was already on my way back from Aumsville, sure I’d stop for him. Jay’s caught a couple of breaks lately, here’s to hoping he can stay free. Although, you’ve got to bet that Hosoi wishes he had Adam’s lawyer, considering he seemingly had a harder time getting released for lessor offense and comparatively nominal criminal history. Insert derisive Steve Olson comment on skate bloggers here. - Thanks to TK, Mac and about a 20 other people for the tip.

Step one on how to make your clothing company valid in the eyes of skateboarders…build an indoor training park at your warehouse then hire Jay Adams as the facility manager.

I thought the Charles Manson tattoo was a nice touch.

He will probably enjoy increased freedom (i.e. not that of a halfway house) via electronic monitoring if the courts are impressed with his progress. If he violates his parole in any way, Jay Adams is most definitely fucked. I know he’s human, but it sounds as though he’s on thin ice and four years isn’t so bad for accessories to major interstate drug deals.

But your certainly off base on one point- why would you ever expect someone’s employer to pick them up from prison?? Blog on dude.
July 31st, 2008 at 9:27 pm
also..Hosoi apparently had TONS of priors that he never appeared for and just ignored the court dates…that’s partly why they threw the book at him.

Yeah, when someone plays the “We’re all hardcore bros” angle, why would I get that impression?
You’re certainly off base with your ability to recognize sarcasm. Or spell. Blog off, dud.

Adams priors were heavier.

I like how people judging what punk rock is and isn’t point to brand names and selling out as a first resort when they have no idea what you’re talking about.
It’s punk rock to do what you want and still bring home the bacon, no matter who signs the checks. It’s punk rock to not give a shit how someone else makes their living and get a job yourself. Parents with punk rock in the heart are the best parents in the world.
Anymore, punk rock kids make me sick with their attitudes. Skate on and eat asphalt, jerkface.

Yes that’s right, punk is dead It’s just another cheap product for the consumers head Bubblegum rock on plastic transistors Schoolboy sedition backed by big time promoters CBS promote the Clash Ain’t for revolution, it’s just for cash Punk became a fashion just like hippy used to be Ain’t got a thing to do with your or me
Movements are systems and systems kill Movements are expressions of the public will Punk became a movement cos we all felt lost Leaders sold out and now we all pay the cost Punk narcissism was a social napalm Steve Jones started doing real harm Preaching revolution, anarchy and change Sucked from the system that had given him his name
Well I’m tired of staring through shit stained glass Tired of staring up a superstars arse I’ve got an arse and crap and a name I’m just waiting for my fifteen minutes fame
Steven Jones, you’re napalm If you’re so pretty vacant, why do you smarm? Patti Smith, you’re napalm, your write with your hand But it’s Rimbaud’s arm
And me, yes, I, do I want to burn? Is there something I can learn? Do I need a business man to promote my angle Can I resist the carrots that fame and fortune dangle I see the velvet zippies in their bondage gear The social elite with safetypins in their ear I watch and understand that it don’t mean a thing The scorpions might attack, but the systems stole the sting PUNK IS DEAD. PUNK IS DEAD. PUNK IS DEAD

Jay looks highly constipated in that photo on the right. Is he dropping anchor or what? He now cleans the toilet where earlier he shat. Poetic.
