Stop picking on me!

Sure, the skateboarding community at large doesn’t have any respect for longboarders, for whatever short-sighted reason, but the longboarders are probably ambivalent to the rest of us right? It’s all good, and karma bro, right? Check out Five Reasons Why Skateboards Stink and Longboards Rock over at New Zealand’s Skurfboards.com. Really? In New Zealand? Is there a big enough scene down there where they can afford to discriminate against each other? People, please try to refrain yourselves from neanderthal comments on this, either here or that site. I don’t care what size board you ride anymore than I care what shoes you prefer, unless you wear Keds™, cause then you’re a complete kook and I don’t want you reading this web site. And to think I used your photo as our 5th ever Shot of the Week, and this is how you repay me? I have no one-time email acquaintance in New Zealand, you’re dead to me! Speaking of New Zealand, you should watch Flight of the Conchords on HBO.

Before there were longboards, before there were shortboards, before there were skateparks, and way before there were Vans, there were plywood planks, roller skate wheels, no OG’s skated, and real kids wore Keds, PF Flyers, and Chuck Taylor All-Stars.

I second that!

In NZ there are some shortboarders who don’t even recognise longboarding as skating. I haven’t met any longboarders who go out of there way to piss off street skaters though. We’re a friendly bunch down here in NZ
I suspect this is just a wind-up to get a reaction (and it worked)

Haha Joe knows what I’m talking about!
Spot on! You can learn from that man.

My longboarder prejiduce stemmed from all the popped collar frat boys that used to cruise across campus with their puca-shell necklaces on their sector 9’s (grew up beside OSU). But really, that’s a hate for frat boys, not the boards. Who can tell me that bombing mt tabor on a longboard isn’t a blast? (if you do you’re a liar) And what’s more mind blowing than seeing Dan Hughes rock the Afroman Numbchuck (which i’ve always rocked as a longboard) like it’s a normal sized stick? As for me, I’m gonna go strap some wheels to an ironing board and head to burnside.

If the kid in banner photo was on a proper skateboard, he might be grinding and not just hitting tile but then of course he wouldn’t be ‘flowing’ as well…

“he might be grinding”
ie. slowing down
It also looks like he can actually skate to the park on that board instead of driving the typical OG SUV.

This is the guy in the banner: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7XxbpJO2OI

Nice speedcheck slides! That’s real “street” skating.

I never understood why people cared how long the board was. Yeah, if you’re only skating to class you shouldn’t call yourself a “skater.” That goes without saying. But I never met a frat guy type who sought to associate himself with skating. Skating might have been something he “used to do” before he discovered the obviously superior thrills of pumping iron, Coors Light, and secret handshakes.

delete any below coping shots (even if front truck is above copes, in the air)
January 1st, 2008 at 10:19 pm
actually only one wheel above coping (might claim to be grinding)

Good idea. ‘Cuz when he’s in the air he’s no longer carvin’, marvin.
